My today’s devotional from my ESV Bible centered in Numbers 21-22.
These chapters talked about the conquest of Israel against the king of Moab, Balak and how Balak intended to curse Israel to defeat them thru Balaam, son of Peor.
At first, I wondered how can Balaam, not an Israelite get to know Yahweh’s name because Balaam prays/talks to Yahweh. Also Balaam had a reputation to curse and to bless nations as he pleases. Balaam also seems to be obedient to Yahweh’s commandments because even if king Balak of Moab would give him a house full of silver and gold, Balaam won’t harkened to the voice of king Balak but to the voice of Yahweh.
Here we have a foreigner, Balaam who fears the word of Yahweh, who prays/talks to Yahweh and Yahweh answers him and yet he seem is not a true believer of Yahweh.
It’s confusing how in the story in Numbers, Balaam seems to be a believer of Yahweh but in the New Testament, Lord Jesus Christ abhors Balaam especially in the book of Revelations.
It seems there is a contradiction to the Bible but the truth is the story is incomplete.
To help me study more on Balaam, I got this very informative and insightful site:
