Day 83: Nuggets of Learning: Encourage and Brother’s Keeper (Numbers 32)

Hi there!

In my devotional today, it included the chapter 32 of Numbers.

I won’t give a much detailed reflection about the whole chapter.

To summarize chapter 32, it is about how the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Manasseh asked for a land inheritence before crossing the Jordan river so that their little ones, wives and livestock could settle in that land.

Moses was angry when these people ask for their inheritance “early” because if he give in to the clamor of these people, the whole congregation of Israel might be discouraged.

Numbers 32:6-7 But Moses said to the people of Gad and the people of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to the war while you sit here? Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land that Yahweh has given them?”

Two things I have learned from the above verses: encourage and be a brother’s keeper/sister’s keeper.

Encourage. We are called to encourage others and for us to be of good courage because Yahweh has promised something great or has purposed our life for something good. We need to believe and hold on to the promises of Yahweh because Yahweh hates rebellion and disbelief.

Be a brother’s keeper/sister’s keeper. This is not something new. This is the thing Yahweh has said to Cain but Cain failed to do that’s why Cain murdered Abel. This is what Lord Jesus Christ taught in the Scriptures but said in these words “love others as you loved yourself”. I saw in Numbers 32:6 Moses’ concern for the congregation of Israel to be a brother’s keeper. Being a brother’s or sister’s keeper honors Yahweh.
